About the club

Welcome to the official website of Wycombe Photographic Society, formally known as High Wycombe Camera Club. We do hope that you enjoy our website, especially the Members Galleries section. Should you have any comments or would like to receive more details about the Society please do not hesitate to contact us.

The first meeting of HIGH WYCOMBE CAMERA CLUB was held on the 1st September 1938.

Today the Club is a group of enthusiasts, from beginners to experts, young and older, male and female, whose common interest is photography. The activities of the Club embrace all types of still photography: digital or traditional; prints and transparencies in colour or monochrome; and audio visual sequences.

The club meets on the 1st, 3rd, and when it occurs, 5th Thursday of each month from September to June, at the Micklefield Community Centre, Micklefield Road, High Wycombe at 7:45pm for 8:00pm start.

The Club activities include:

  • Print and Projected Image evenings, which are adjudicated by visiting experts
  • Competitions with other clubs
  • Talks given by visiting speakers
  • Outings to local and further afield places of photographic interest
  • An Annual Exhibition during Wycombe Arts Festival
  • In House tutorials on Image Capture, presentation and Photoshop
  • Social events.

The Print and Projected Image evenings are friendly affairs, & are judged at two levels, novice/intermediate and advanced. The critique from the judges, which is constructive, contains useful & informative advice not only for the competitor but also for all club members.

Please contact us to find where these  digital tuition evening meetings are held as the location often varies. Although the Club is not able to offer formal tuition you will find that the members are willing to help with problems, readily offer advice and share their experiences.

The membership fee is £36 a year (October to September). This fee is reduced to members joining partway through the year. Visitors may attend 2-3 meetings without commitment. The fee for the Digital Group meetings (which are open to non-members) is £1 per session.

The Club is active within the Chiltern Association of Camera Clubs, and through this Association is affiliated to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain. The Club is also a member of the Federation of North West London Photographic Societies.
